Keys to the Castle

a duo show with Mac Pierce
@ Bert Green Fine Art

January 20th - March 23rd

  • This latest body of work by Mikey Mosher brings together the mediums of found object assemblage, lenticular printing, and digital fabrication to explore themes of spirituality, nostalgia and homesickness. Broadly, this collection of pieces attempts to find harmony between the everyday and the unusual. This contrast is pursued on multiple levels of each piece. Most prominently, it exists between the reverent, altar-like scenes featured in the prints, and the extremely plain and otherwise unremarkable objects of which those scenes are composed. Zooming out, the oddity of the lenticular print format combined with the hyper-simple pictorial symbols featured on the laser-engraved frames add another layer of contrast. The pieces reference and invert a paradigm found in Renaissance religious artworks in which hyper-specific and precious symbols, icons, and artifacts point to a carefully-protected spiritual reality; thereby portraying a spiritual truth that is exceedingly commonplace and accessible to everybody.
