Ouroboros, 2022

Hand-cut collage, plywood, acrylic, MDF, dowels

This piece came out of a series of smaller collages titled doing as much of as little as possible, which I began after about a year of doing no hand-cut collage work at all. That process was largely about regaining my footing with the medium and approaching it with fresh eyes. This was the first large-scale piece that came out of those exercises. At the time, I was thinking a lot about the concept of ‘biofeedback’, beginning to learn a bit about cybernetics, all in the context of art and music, and the tactile relationship I have with both. I wanted to create a composition that was made up of a bunch of interdependent parts that reflected that theme of sensory feedback.
